Everpure Launches Anti-microbial Micro-Pure® II Filters

Innovative filters incorporate silver-based antimicrobial compound to provide safe, effective, long-lasting protection from bacteria growth

Hanover Park, IL - September 23, 2005 - Everpure, LLC, the leading manufacturer of water filtration systems to the foodservice industry, today introduced a new line of filter cartridges featuring Micro-Pure® II filtration media with AgIONTM antimicrobial protection. Unveiled at the North American Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers (NAFEM) show in Anaheim, CA, the new line of Everpure precoat filters inhibit the growth of bacteria in filtration systems.

Everpure's exclusive precoat filtration technology provides superior chlorine taste and odor reduction and micro-filters dirt and particles as small as ˝ micron in size. These filters reduce asbestos fibers and cysts such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia. And now, Everpure's new and improved Micro-Pure II with anti-microbial protection is featured on seven new precoat cartridges: MC2, XC2, i20002, i40002, OCS2, BH2, and MH2. Everpure precoat filtration systems have also been upgraded to include the new Micro-Pure II filter cartridges as part of the complete system package. These new cartridges and systems will become available to the marketplace on November 1, 2005.

"We are pleased to offer the Micro-Pure II antimicrobial-treated filter to our foodservice, beverage and vending customers," said Peter Gorr, Director of Marketing for Everpure. "Bacteria growth can impart unwanted tastes and odors or prematurely clog filters. Also, bacteria build up can reduce performance over the lifetime of a filter. We selected AgION's antimicrobial technology for Micro-Pure II, because it not only enhances our market-leading filter by offering protection from bacteria growth, but AgION's controlled release of naturally occurring silver is also one of the only antimicrobials registered as safe for food and water contact."

The AgION antimicrobial technology featured in the Micro-Pure II filter has broad regulatory approval. The silver-based compound is registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for use in food processing facilities and approved by the EPA and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for food contact surfaces. A recipient of the NSF Food Safety Leadership Award in the category of technology breakthrough, the compound is also approved by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
